The Manual Injection Module is a simple stand that sits on your magnet leg to allow convenient sample loading from a 25 uL syringe.

Protasis CapNMR probes can be loaded conveniently from a standard 25 or 50 microliter syringe into a simple injection port built into a microvolume union.  This can be done by hand.  But the Protasis Manual Injection Module (aka MIM) provides a convenient stand to hold the syringe, the injection port, an in-line filter and the connection to a small diemeter (100um) transfer line.  Many samples are small enough to simply push to waster.  But the MIM also holds a small vial that can be used o recollect your 'precious' sample from an optional 'sample return' line.

Step-By-Step Injection

  1. Draw your 5 or 10 microliter sample into a first 25uL syringe.
  2. Insert the needle of Syringe #1 into the injection port until it bottoms.  A sleeve with metal ferrule should be pre-tightened so as to 'grab' the needle snugly when the needle is pushed past the ferrule.  Push the plunger slowly to push the sample into the probe.  Easy does it--you can apply great pressure with a manual syringe with too much pressure.
  3. Fill a secpmd syringe with a calibrated volume* of 'push liquid'.  This is usually the same deuterated solvent that the sample is in, but could be an immiscible liquid, like the fluorocarbon used in Protasis' (patented) Zero Dispersion Sample Loading technicque.
  4. Slowly push the liquid in Syringe #2 into the injection port to displace the sample and move it into postion in the center of the flowcell.
  5. Run your NMR experiments.
  6. Refill the second syringe with the 'push volume plus an extra ten (or so) microliters.
  7. Slowly push the liquid in Syringe #2 into the injection port to move the sample out of the microcoil flowcell into the Sample Return line.
    • Either push the spent sample to a waste bottle OR
    • Use a Sample Return line (same or lesser length) and recollect the sample in a collection vial

* push calibration can be accomplished easily estimating the tubing volume and then by trying several push volumes to determine the most intense signal.  Calibration can be achieved automatically using Protasis samples loaders (PBSL or HTSL).
